The Tesla app allows you to manage your Tesla products from anywhere. By providing you with a comprehensive view of your energy ecosystem, the Tesla app helps you monitor day-to-day operations and understand the flow of energy in your home.
To get started, download the Tesla app and sign in to your Tesla Account.
The Tesla app home screen displays a real-time power flow, illustrating how your Powerwall, grid connection and solar system work together to provide energy to your home.
The ‘Energy’ screen allows you to analyse historical data of your system’s production and consumption. You can check what time your solar system starts producing daily, view your monthly energy usage and export detailed system data for further analysis.
The ‘Impact’ screen provides you with personalised trends that highlight common questions related to your home’s energy, such as how self-powered your home is, how much your solar offsets your usage or when your last grid outage was.
You can customise your Powerwall according to your energy preferences. In the ‘Settings’ menu, you can set different control modes that change how your Powerwall is charged and discharged.
CONTROL MODE | DESCRIPTION |
---|---|
Self-Powered | Minimise your carbon footprint and become more energy independent — only available when paired with solar |
Time Based Control | Lower your utility bill and maximise your economic benefit if your energy price varies throughout the day |
Storm Watch | Set up your Powerwall to react to significant weather events that may cause a grid outage |
Vehicle Charging During Power Outage | Use your Powerwall and Tesla vehicles to balance your charging and energy needs during a grid outage |
With Backup Reserve, your Powerwall provides stored energy protection during a grid outage. To adjust your reserve percentage, go to the ‘Settings’ screen and adjust the slider at the top of the screen. The left-side percentage is how much energy you are saving for grid outages. The right-side percentage is allocated to your Powerwall when Self-Powered or Time-Based Control mode is selected.
While a reserve percentage of 20% is recommended, consider your personal economic needs and energy security outlook when setting Backup Reserve. In the event of a grid outage, your Powerwall will always provide backup protection to your home with all the energy that it has available — not just the amount of energy that you have set as your reserve percentage.
Note: If you set Backup Reserve to 100%, there will be no energy allocated to the selected Powerwall control mode, and your Powerwall will only provide protection during an outage. You can change control modes at any time based on your preferred energy usage.
