What Is It?

From 1st November 2024, eligible home and business owners will get:

  1. between $1600 to $2400 off the up-front installation costs of a battery for homes and businesses with existing solar, depending on the size of the battery
  2. between $250 to $400 for connecting their household or business battery to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP).

This scheme will apply to both homes and businesses with existing solar, adding a battery to their installation AND homes and businesses without existing solar who are getting a “solar and battery” package/bundle installed.

Eligibility Requirements

There are no income requirements as part of the NSW Battery and VPP rebate – you’ll just need to have:

  1. Existing rooftop solar installed on the premises (or be getting it as part of a new solar and battery installation), it’s grid connected (off-grid systems to not qualify) and that you use an approved supplier to install the battery.
  2. A battery selected for installation that is between 2 and 28kWH in capacity, and the brand/model is on the approved product list. All of Arkana’s recommended batteries including Tesla and Sungrow are eligible for the rebate.
  3. An approved supplier – known as Accredited Certificate Providers (ACPs). These are businesses that have been accredited by the Scheme Administrator (IPART) to conduct specific installations and upgrades under the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme.

Existing, already installed batteries will not qualify for the rebate scheme – but can take part in the VPP participation incentive, provided that the battery has 6 years of the manufacturers’ warranty remaining and meets the equipment requirements.

If you are not eligible, Arkana may be able to negotiate a discount off our battery systems, please request a quote here.

How It Works

Unlike the Victoria or Queensland state schemes – there is no application process required for the home/commercial property owner. This is all handled by the approved installer, such as 1KOMMA5° – similar to the STC, solar rebates.

The up to $2,400 battery rebate will show on your invoice as an up-front discount – this is then later claimed back by the installation company from the NSW Government.

After installation, if you choose to join a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) such as through Origin or Amber – you will also be eligible for $250-$400 – which is an incentive that can be utilised twice per household, 3 years apart (meaning you can switch VPP providers and get the incentive second time).

Getting Started

The first step is to arrange a free quote from 1KOMMA5° to see if a battery makes sense for you, review your current or planned solar system and assess your energy usage and bills to give you insights into expected returns and other benefits from adding a battery.

We can then save your battery stock for 1st of November (as there will be a lot of demand in NSW), help guide you through the above process, explain how the scheme works and check to see if there are any other Government rebates you may be eligible for.
